|

How much do you really know about your heating? Here’s a simple question and answer quiz to introduce you to your furnace.

1. What is a central heating system?

a. A furnace connected through several ducts

b. An HVAC connected through several ducts

c. A space heater that’s in the center of your house

d. The center of your furnace

Answer: B. Central heating and air should heat all your home evenly through several ducts that keep air flowing through the house. If your heating is uneven, you need to call us.

2. What’s the only thing ALL central heating does NOT have?

a. A thermostat

b. A blower fan

c. A way to heat air

d. Premium filtration

Answer: This is a hard one, but D is correct. All central heating has a thermostat for control, a way to

heat, a blower fan and SOME SORT OF FILTRATION. But most filters will not catch micro-particles, like germs and allergens. For that, you’ll have to call us.

3. The life of the average furnace is:

a. Counted in dog years

b. Is different if it’s gas or electric

c. Changes with the seasons

d. Depends on the maintenance

Answer: Definitely D. Your furnace should last you 12-15 years, but that depends on how well it is maintained. If you don’t change the filters, keep it clean, get tune-ups and make small repairs, it won’t last as long and will cost you on your energy bill

4. What are the warning signs you’ll need a new furnace:

a. Something smells or sounds wrong

b. It’s not warming all or any of your house

c. That energy bill shoots up

d. All of the above

Answer: You guessed it, D. You can tell a lot just by simple observations. If you see cracks in the system or don’t feel it warming the house fast or hear a knocking sound. Or even if there’s just more dust than usual on your shelves. These are all symptoms of the bad-furnace disease.
